Romanization and supported languages
Updated over a month ago

As you probably already know, our Writing Guidelines generally invite users to transcribe lyrics in their native scripts, avoiding romanization.

This is because we already provide users with automatic romanized version of the lyrics in the "Translation" section.

There are a few exceptions to the rule though. Read below for more information:

Which languages are automatically romanized?

  • Assamese

  • Chinese

  • Greek

  • Japanese

  • Korean

  • Russian

What languages are not automatically romanized?

  • Bengali

  • Gujarati

  • Hindi

  • Kannada

  • Malayalam

  • Marathi

  • Odia

  • Nepali

  • Panjabi

  • Tamil

  • Telugu

  • Urdu

For these languages we recommend using romanization as the primary contribution type. The scripted languages can still be contributed in the 'translation' section and displayed there accordingly. You can find tips for curating your romanized contribution in these dedicated guides per language.

Can I edit the automatic romanizations?

Only Curators with a high rank can currently change the automatic romanized versions added by Musixmatch Assistant Accounts.

Can I transcribe lyrics in Simplified Chinese?

At the moment, we’re only able to process transcriptions in Traditional Chinese.

We are working towards supporting both Traditional and Simplified Chinese for the future, but for the time being we ask you to send only Traditional Chinese contributions.

請問我可以用簡體進行歌詞編寫嗎?

根據現在的情況,我們只能處理繁體的歌詞。在未來的日子,我們將會同時支持簡體和繁體的漢語,敬請期待。

What if I don't see my language in this list?

We're always open to adding new languages to this list, so if you'd like to suggest one feel free to reach out to one of our Moderators on the Community Slack Channel.
