CarPlay and Live Activity Lyrics — Setup and Troubleshooting

Follow along with your favorite songs everywhere - on your Lock Screen, CarPlay, and Apple Watch. Here's how to enable these features in just a few steps.

Note: Live Activities and Widgets are premium features. If you're currently on a free plan, you'll need to upgrade to a Musixmatch Premium subscription before you can activate them.

Set-up

  1. Open Musixmatch and go to the settings page

    You can find the setting page by clicking on the "Try CarPlay and Widgets" banner, or clicking on the gear button ⚙️ on the top bar

  2. Enable Live Activities on iPhone settings

    You'll arrive at the CarPlay and Widgets settings page. Tap on "Show Live Activities". This will redirect you to your iPhone's Settings.

  3. Play a song and activate Live Activity clicking on "Show dynamic lyrics"

    Musixmatch Live Activity will now be visible on your lock screen. Press "Show dynamic lyrics" to start reading lyrics in sync with the music!

  4. Connect to CarPlay to enjoy on your car

    Connect your phone to your CarPlay device, and that's it! Start playing your songs from Spotify, Apple Music, or directly from the Musixmatch App. You will see the live activity widget directly on your CarPlay dashboard.

Troubleshooting

  • On CarPlay, I see another widget where the Musixmatch one should be. Your phone is probably prioritizing another app's widget. Try closing the other app, or disabling the Live Activities for that specific app.

  • Lyrics stopped showing on Lock Screen or CarPlay mid-session. Try clicking on the refresh button on the Live Activity itself. If it doesn't solve the problem, re-open the Musixmatch app by clicking directly on the Live Activity.

  • The app isn't connecting to my music player. Close Musixmatch Dynamic Lyrics completely on your iPhone, reopen it, then reconnect CarPlay.

  • Translations are not appearing on my CarPlay screen. We are improving our translation feature, but for the meantime, if it stops, open the Musixmatch app, close the "Player" page, and re-open it.

  • Lyrics on the Live Activity are those of the previous song. Click on the refresh button on your lock screen's live activity and the sync should be correctly restored.

  • Lyrics are late compared to the music. If lyrics are late, you can decide to show them earlier. Go in the lyrics player on the Musixmatch app, click on the "..." button on the bottom right, and set your preferred value on "Show lyrics early".

Common questions

  • Can I see the lyrics as a full page on my CarPlay device? The widget feature that allows users to see the lyrics as a full page on CarPlay is not available yet, but will be coming soon!
