Minimum balance
You can request a cash out once your wallet balance reaches $25. Below that threshold, the cash out option is unavailable. Your wallet always shows how close you are to the threshold.
Payout methods
You can receive your earnings via:
Bank transfer — using your IBAN
PayPal — using your PayPal email address
You can switch between methods at any time from your payout settings.
Before your first cash out
To receive payments, you need to complete a one-time payout setup. You can do this right away or wait until you reach the $25 threshold — it's up to you.
You can reach the setup page by clicking on "Set up", or on the Settings icon ⚙️.
The setup has three steps:
Your details — name, address, tax ID, country of residence, and preferred payout method.
Identity verification — a quick ID check (government ID + selfie), handled securely by our payments partner.
Tax declaration — a short declaration you review and sign digitally. Your signed document is saved and downloadable at any time.
Your progress is saved automatically — you can complete the steps across multiple sessions.
Taxes and withholding
Musixmatch is required by Italian law to apply a withholding tax to royalty payments. The rate depends on where you live:
Italian residents: 15% standard rate (12% if you're under 35 — applied automatically).
Non-Italian residents: 30% by default. If your country has a tax treaty with Italy, you may qualify for a reduced rate.
To apply a reduced treaty rate, upload a certificate of tax residence issued by your country's tax authority during setup. Our team reviews it manually — until approved, the 30% default applies. Certificates are valid for one calendar year and must be renewed each January.
Every time a payout is made, you'll receive a receipt itemising the gross amount, tax withheld, and net amount paid.
How long does it take?
After you request a cash out, your payment is processed within 5 business days. Once processed, delivery time depends on your bank or PayPal.
What if something goes wrong?
If a transfer fails, you'll be notified and the payout will be retried automatically. If the issue persists, contact Musixmatch support with the email address linked to your account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to complete payout setup before I start earning?
No. You can earn and accumulate a balance at any time. Setup is only required when you want to cash out.
Can I change my payout method after setup?
Yes — go to your payout settings anytime and switch between bank transfer and PayPal.
Can I change my bank details after setting them up?
Yes. You can update your details at any time. If the change affects your signed tax declaration, you'll be asked to re-sign it.
Is there a fee for cashing out?
No fees — only the applicable withholding tax is deducted from your payout.
Are there countries where cashing out isn't available?
No — cashing out is available worldwide. If you run into any issue, contact support.
I'm Italian and under 35. Do I need to do anything special?
No. The 12% reduced rate is applied automatically based on your date of birth.
