By participating, you're helping shape the future of music technology while ensuring you're fairly compensated and respected as a rightsholder or creator.
What is Musixmatch requesting permission for?
Musixmatch is seeking your consent to include the copyright-protected music that you own or control (such as lyrics, musical works, sound recordings, and associated materials and metadata) in training datasets for artificial intelligence models.
These models may be:
Generative (capable of creating new content)
Non-generative (used for analysis, recommendations, and insights)
The purpose is to develop innovative AI products and services that benefit the music industry.
Why is Musixmatch doing this?
AI is rapidly transforming how people interact with music. By training AI models responsibly and with rightsholder consent, Musixmatch aims to create valuable new products while ensuring creators are compensated and maintain control over how their music is used.
Is this opt-in required to continue my existing relationship with Musixmatch?
No. This is entirely optional. Your current relationship with Musixmatch is unaffected by whether you choose to opt in or opt out of AI training.
Is this separate from Musixmatch’s core business of licensing lyrics for display on AI-powered digital services?
Yes. This AI opt-in relates to AI training only and is separate from our core lyric licensing business.
How your music will be used
What exactly will you do with my music?
Your music will be included in training datasets used to teach AI models to understand and analyse music-related content. This may include pattern recognition, style analysis, lyric transcription, and other products and services we’re developing.
Will my music be stored in its original form?
Yes. Your music may be retained in full within our training datasets to enable effective model training.
Will the AI reproduce my music verbatim?
We implement technical safeguards designed to prevent AI models from reproducing music verbatim. While no system is perfect, our goal is to ensure models learn from your music rather than memorise and regurgitate it.
Who will have access to train on my music?
Musixmatch will use your music to train our own AI models. We may also provide training datasets to carefully selected, trusted third-party partners who meet our standards for responsible AI development.
We will announce new AI products on our website.
Will I know which AI products use my music?
Yes. Musixmatch will provide information about training datasets for each AI product we develop, so you can understand which products have been trained using your music.
Label and publisher deals
What should I do if I have signed a deal with a record label or music publisher?
It is your responsibility to make sure that you are legally capable of permitting Musixmatch to use your music for AI training.
Before opting in, please check that you have not licensed or sold rights in your music to someone else (for example, a record label or music publisher) in a way that prevents you from permitting Musixmatch to use your music for AI training.
Control & transparency
Can I opt out after opting in?
Yes. You may opt out at any time via the Preferences page in your account. Upon opt-out, your music will be removed from future training datasets.
If I opt out, what happens to models already trained using my music?
AI models that have already been trained using your music prior to your opt-out will not be withdrawn or re-trained. However, your music will be excluded from any new or updated training datasets going forward.
Can I request deletion of my music from training datasets?
Yes. After opting out, your music will not be included in future training datasets. This request will be honoured for datasets created after your opt-out date.
How can I monitor how my music is being used?
Musixmatch will provide transparency regarding which AI products have been trained using datasets that include your music. Information will be available on our website and through your rightsholder portal.
Your benefits
When your music is used for AI training, we will credit your account with a share of the revenue we receive.
Revenue will be calculated using one of the following methods:
Pro-rata based on the size of your music catalogue
Based on historical earnings
Based on a proxy formula determined by Musixmatch
You may withdraw your revenue from your account once it exceeds €100 EUR (or the US dollar equivalent).
Legal & copyright considerations
Does opting in transfer ownership of my intellectual property rights?
No. You retain full ownership or control of all intellectual property rights in your music, including copyright. You are only granting Musixmatch a limited licence to use your music for AI training purposes.
What safeguards are in place to protect my music?
In addition to technical safeguards against unauthorised reproduction, Musixmatch maintains strict data security protocols and requires third-party partners to meet high standards for data protection and responsible AI development.
What happens if an AI model trained on my music infringes someone else’s intellectual property rights?
Musixmatch takes responsibility for ensuring that its AI products comply with applicable laws.

Simply tick the opt-in checkbox on the Confirm your preferences page when you add an artist, and confirm your preferences.
